Stromberg & Carlson

Description

This charming classic candlestick telephone comes from the American company Stromberg & Carlson, founded in 1894 in Chicago by Swedish immigrants Alfred Stromberg and Androv Carlson. The firm quickly became one of the main suppliers of telephone equipment for independent telephone companies outside the Bell System. The phone features the typical candlestick design: a vertical metal column with a fixed microphone at the top and a separate receiver resting on a side hook. Stromberg & Carlson became renowned for the quality of sound transmission. Their phones were known as “Farmers’ Telephone” because they could transmit not only voices but also surrounding sounds.
